man man boy man man

Me and my mom went to the bi-annual Big Hair at the Art Center in Des Moines. It was a hilarious event, and the essence of it could not be described in words. It is a fashion show with a cat walk, where 4 different salons put on a show. The shows were outrageous and awesome. The theme was Glam Revolution and each salon had their own take on it.
Here is a website with pictures from the event.

The runway in the 90 degree room. I was in the corner on the left.

They had tons of makeup artists and tattoo artists doing things on all of the guests. This tattoo artist drew a temporary design on my arm.

We happened to run into the MC for the night, Patrick Boltinghouse, (on the right) while shopping in the awesome Historic East Village shopping area in downtown Des Moines the next day. He is a makeup artist and did the makeup of many of the models from the night before. We spent over an hour talking to him and then i stocked up on loose glitter for myself. His store is called Vanity and Glamour. Glitter nights are the best. They never fail me.

Downtooun Dez Moines. I took really stupid pictures, so these are the only ones that will appear.

I have never actually stopped in Des Moines other than to use the bathroom at random establishments on our various trips to Chicago every year. Here are some pictures of Valley Junction, an eclectic shopping area.

Listening to the re-released Vaselines album, Enter the Vaselines.
